My Refugee

2024

Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, six million people fled their homes in search of safety. In response, The British government launched Homes for Ukraine, a scheme which issued visas to Ukrainian refugees, as long as they had a sponsor in the UK. One hundred thousand British households stepped forward to offer their homes as a place of refuge.

This film follows displaced Ukrainians adapting to life with their host family. They must overcome cultural differences and navigate an uncertain future. The hosts assert their boundaries, forcing them to re-examine their motivations and test the limits of altruism.
